In this modern world of drugstore medicine we have lost some of the old healing remedies of our ancestors. Salve for example, has been lost in our modern world. Which begs the question, what is salve?
"(Salve is) An ointment used to promote healing of the skin or as protection."
Salve, like just stated, is used for soothing and healing the skin. Salve can also be used for healing things like twists and sprains. Or for drawing out things like infection. Each salve is unique and has its own special properties.

What can I use salve on?
Your entire aching body! One of the reasons salve is so awesome, is that you can pack herbs into the oil and make it super strong and powerful. Yet, being mixed in oil and beeswax, the outcome is very soothing and gentle while still maintaining it's healing properties. Use salve wherever healing is needed or pain needs soothing. |
How do I use salve? Salve is a soothing, healing balm. No need to use sparingly! When someone comes to me with a burn I apply a thick layer over the wound. Same with twisted ankles. Apply a nice, thick layer over the affected area, cover, and leave for several hours to overnight. Be sure to check on wounds frequently. There is no right or wrong way to use it, however. No right or wrong amount. Everyone is different and so are their preferences. Some folks like to have a thick layer over a cut, while others like to apply a smaller amount several times throughout the day. It's all up to you. |
